Usually any small detail that you see from Antoine Griezmann proves that he is different to the majority of footballers, but in Atletico Madrid's Champions League crushing defeat to Borussia Dortmund, neither he nor strike partner Diego Costa contributed much at all.
In the first half the Frenchman was completely anonymous and matters didn't improve much in the second half either, when Atletico had to push for a comeback, while the Germans smelt blood and continued to go for the jugular.
With the World Cup winner struggling to make an impact and Costa in a wretched run of form, the Los Rojiblancos forward line is not offering much.
There is no doubt that Griezmann, who aspires to win the Ballon d'Or later this year, and Costa, who terrorised Real Madrid in the European Super Cup with a brace at the start of the season, offer Atletico the quality that they've lacked in recent years in the Champions League.
It is equally clear though that the duo's current level of performances is very low and on Wednesday night they reached rock bottom.
In the same way that they claim glory in victory, they are the first to be looked at on the dark nights.
In Dortmund, they simply didn't show up.

He is a good player but I think he overrates himself... He should stop making noise about the [cup] as if he played better than those two legends of the game... the world cup was not entirely his doing and he wasn't even the major contributor to the trophy... Mbappe played far better than he did during the world cup

Well yesterday’s match can’t blame much on Griezmann and Costa tho. The midfield always struggled to create good chances or passes to them, yet Simeone still refuse to start Rodrigo who is undoubtedly better than Partey or Koke currently, and he even subbed out Saul while he’s playing great. What do you expect from Griezmann and Costa when the substitution destroyed the game with 3 goals conceded in 15 minutes?
