Griezmann was offside in the build-up to the penalty Barcelona were awarded

The penalty that Barcelona received in the 38th minute for a foul on Nelson Semedo came after a move in which Antoine Griezmann was offside.

VAR only looked at the incident in the box and deemed Griezmann's position in the build-up to be acceptable as it was considered to be a separate move.

"There's no doubt that it's an offside, but since VAR has considered that the play had the play continued from this illegal position, and after several passes between Barcelona players, the ball reached Semedo, who was fouled in what is a clear penalty," said referee expert, Juan Andujar Oliver.

The VAR protocol states that at this point that a goal or penalty can be reviewed from the time that the attacking team won possession of the ball with it still in play.
