Griezmann's Barcelona transfer 'imminent' despite two key doubts

Barcelona are set to complete a deal to sign Antoine Griezmann imminently, according to reports in Spain.

But there are still two key doubts surrounding the transfer as Griezmann's lawyer, Sevan Karian, prepares to meet with the Catalan club this weekend to get the deal over the line.

According to Marca , the two parties already agreed a deal last summer when the Frenchman was close to securing a switch before deciding to stay at Atletico Madrid.

It is expected they will now look to sign the same deal - provided Barcelona stick to their promise with the terms offered and Griezmann confirms he is willing to take a pay cut.

Griezmann penned a big-money contract extension with Atletico Madrid last summer, signing an agreement worth €23m per season in wages.

As a result, he can expect a pay cut of around €5m per year if he decides to sign the deal put in front of him by Barcelona last year.

But with the attacker already communicating to Atletico Madrid his desire to leave this week, it appears that is unlikely to be a sticking point.

However, it is not too late for Barcelona to pull the plug on the deal, which has been questioned by some critics.

Reports have recently suggested they may not have the budget to sign Griezmann and top defensive target Matthijs De Ligt having already agreed a move for Frenkie De Jong.

Barcelona could, therefore, decide to back out but that is not expected to happen as they prepare to trigger Griezmann's release clause when it drops to €120m on July 1.
