Guadalupe Porros Ayuso will become the first woman to officiate in the top flight of Spanish men's football when she takes to the field next season.
The assistant referee started her career at 16 years of age and has officiated in the second, third and fourth divisions in Spain.
"I'm on cloud nine," an emotional Guadalupe said.
"Everyone dreams of being in the first division and, after lots of hard work, I've achieved it. I can't believe it."
In other refereeing news, Marta Huerta de Aza has been promoted to the third tier - she is the highest positioned female referee in Spanish football.
