Clarence Seedorf has apparently offered himself to Ajax to become the Dutch club's next technical director according to former Netherlands team-mate Ruud Gullit.
But Seedorf has reportedly not even had a response from the Eredivisie champions despite registering his interest in joining the club's board of directors.
Gullit has been a vocal analyst of Dutch football and recently claimed Wout Weghorst wasn't good enough to play for Manchester United or Holland.
The former Real Madrid and AC Milan star has enjoyed spells in management after retiring from playing duties in 2014 at the age of 37, but now apparently wants to try and replicate the success that other ex-players have had in stepping into an advisory role.
There was previous hope that Liverpool transfer specialist Julian Ward would take the vacant role at the end of the season but he has since rejected the opportunity.
Ex-Holland international Gullit revealed the news about the former AC Milan manager's interest to Ziggo Sport as he said: 'Seedorf applied for a job at Ajax, but he hasn't gotten an answer,'
'Even if you don't want to, you could have just said that.
'Again, you're not sure if it's going to work. Only someone comes in. Just look at Paolo Maldini at AC Milan. It's a sign for your club,' he added.
However, Gullit does believe that his former team-mate will return to Dutch football with the national team to become a part of the Netherland's set-up in a support role.
Seedorf began his post-playing career managing AC Milan but lasted just 22 games in charge before leaving his post.
He then went on to manage Chinese side Shenzhen, Spanish outfit Deportivo de La Coruno before taking over as national team boss at Cameroon in 2019.
Gullit expressed his desire to see the return of one of 'the greatest Dutch players ever', adding: 'I think it's great that he was offered that job [in the national team. Not because he is dark, but because of who he is and because of his know-how.
'He is one of the greatest Dutch players ever. And also after the conversation with supervisory board. That showed his passion and that's why he was hired.'
'He's had to swallow quite a few turds and has put his pride aside many times to be able to do what he wanted to do.
'He hasn't always succeeded and he often hasn't had the chance to succeed,' he said.
