Haaland drops hidden comment that leaves door open to future Real Madrid move

The Manchester City striker signed an unprecedented deal with the club, keeping him in England until 2034.

Erling Haaland, in his own words, feels “at home”. The Manchester City striker, born in Leeds, put pen to paper on a 9.5-year deal that will see him stay with the Premier League champions until 2034.

The contract, apart from the length, sent shockwaves through the football world as it quashed any possible rumours that had been following him round regarding a move to LaLiga.

Both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid had repeatedly been linked with the striker who has 112 goals in 127 appearances in a sky blue shirt, but it was Haaland himself who put a further spanner in the works of any possible move closer to the Mediterranean Sea.

“My feelings and the discussions I had convinced me that this was the right choice. Ultimately, when I spoke with people, we came to this conclusion, and I felt very good about it”, Haaland expressed when asked why City was the ideal destination to continue his career, “I look forward to spending many more years in Manchester. It’s going to be incredible.”

However, he did not choose to flatly rule out a move to Spain, remarking “I just signed a nine-year contract, so what do you want me to say?” when pushed on whether this was the end of the sueño español.

“Of course, I am very happy and fine with this (not playing for either side). As I said, I am very happy with my choice and hope to spend many more years in Manchester. That’s it,” he concluded.

On City’s wobbly form, Haaland said that there was “a positive energy” in the club and he was “super happy” to be part of the project.
