Kai Havertz 'can't hit a barn door' in the eyes of Jamie O'Hara after Arsenal's new man missed golden chances against Manchester City in the Community Shield final.
The German midfielder deputised up front for the injuried Gabriel Jesus but saw two close-range chances saved by Stefan Ortega in the first half.
In the end it didn't matter as Arsenal triumphed 4-1 on penalties after drawing the game 1-1.
However, it raises questions about his suitability as a back-up striker and O'Hara believes it is a 'problem' that Mikel Arteta must sort.
'Kai Havertz, Arsenal fans can have their say this, but he can't hit a barn door, he said on talkSPORT.
'We know what he's going to give you - he's going to give you hold up play, he's going to work hard, but he's going to let you down when it comes to the crunch.
'And they have to sort that problem because [Gabriel] Jesus is injured. He picks up too many injuries.'
His colleague, Jermaine Pennant, said: 'Kai Havertz had the better opportunities. This game shouldn't have gone to penalties. It should have been won after 90 minutes.'
Havertz completed a £65million move to the Emirates from Chelsea earlier this summer and it raised some eyebrows given his experiences on English turf.
His technical proficiency is obvious but a lack of consistency led to criticism.
All the same, 32 goals in 139 games for the Blues is nothing to be scoffed at and he scored the winner in the 2021 Champions League final before going on to bag 14 goals in all competitions the next season.

on Havertz doing everything but score a goal: Yes I think so. He was superb, the way he pressed and how intelligent he is to try and understand certain spaces and the timing of it, he was great and got in great positions to score. He was unlucky not to score but he was very physical when he needed to be, so I was very pleased with him.
