Barcelona are currently considering whether or not to sign a replacement for Luis Suarez, who will likely miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a knee injury, but newly-appointed head coach Quique Setien is willing to look to Barcelona B for a solution.
There are several players in the Barcelona squad who could fill in for Suarez, yet Setien wants an out-and-out No.9, so Abel Ruiz and Alejandro Marques have been given the chance to try and stake a claim for a spot in the first team.
Both strikers were included in Setien's training session on Thursday, and there is a chance that one of them could be included in the squad to face Granada on Sunday night.
Abel Ruiz
The 19-year-old, who will turn 20 on January 28, is a goalscorer who can also play on the wing, although he is beginning to lose some prominence under Xavier Francesc Garcia Pimienta.
The first Barcelona B game that Setien was present for, which came against Badalona on Wednesday, saw Abel Ruiz come on in the 81st minute and play on the left wing, yet he failed to have the desired impact in his short spell on the pitch.
The forward has gone on summer tours with the first team and he has always been held in high regard by Barcelona's leaders, however his contract comes to an end in 2021 and the Blaugrana would be willing to sell if they receive a good offer.
Abel Ruiz has been a Spain international in all the age groups, even conquering the continent by winning the European Championship with the under-19s and the under-17s.
So far this season, he has played in 16 games for Barcelona B in the Segunda Division B, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
Alejandro Marques
The Venezuelan-born Spanish striker who is known for linking up with his teammates, though he seems to have lost his goalscoring touch this season.
Marques' contract with Barcelona is set to expire in the summer and no agreement has been reached to extend his contract, which has led to him having a reduced role with Barcelona B, playing just 386 minutes and failing to score.
The 19-year-old turns 20 on August 4, and he decided to play for Spain, with whom he won the European Under-19 Championship that was disputed last summer.
Those in charge of La Masia have always believed that Marques is one of the club's brightest prospects, yet it seems that his long-term future lies away from Barcelona, unless there is a sudden change.
Abel Ruiz and Marques know each other perfectly and they managed to lift the last UEFA Youth League that Barcelona won, both playing a starring role in the final against Chelsea in Nyom in 2018, which the Blaugrana won 3-0 with a brace from Marques and a goal from Abel Ruiz.

Barca had Paco, they sold him not because he was not good but because the coach was so dumb. Paco could have been the ideal man for Barca

Abel Ruiz is the best choice... He has only lost confidence and needs to feel relevant again... Give him a chance and make him feel relevant and he will be himself again...
Valverde destroyed his confidence by not giving more chances. I wouldn’t blame him if he wanted to leave when valverde was the coach.

Yuh know, I don't know Alejandro Marques(so I can't speak on him), but I know Abel Ruiz; and when he first came in to the first team I thought, this guy's gonna do well if given the opportunities. I said this based on how well he did when given the chance to shine in the cup games. Alas though, he didn't get the minutes required under Valverde and went straight of the radar, and apparently(according to this article) of the boil. Wouldn't it be something though if Barca give both him and Alejandro the opportunities to fill in for Suarez and they take them and run; Barca would no longer have to look externally for replacements, and the solutions would cost us nothing, as well as having our philosophy engrained. Then their futures would no longer lie away from Barca.

It wasn't the 100 million plus signing Griezmann, Coutinho or Dembele who gave us the Champions League, Club world cups, Laligas and numerous titles. It was La Masia players Pique, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta and Messi. Barca B players should be our priority and not high profile signings. That's our culture.

We need them more than ever, Remember Messi, xavi, iniesta and all our legends were once at the same place Abel Ruiz and Marques are now.

As of now, you can have his 'potential replacement', but you can't have another Suarez.

it will be really tough to get a player of suarez's quality and add to that the understanding messi and suarez share. Its never good to have a player injured. All i can do is wish suarez a speedy recovery.
