Is Mbappe’s hat-trick against Olympiacos the quickest in UCL history?

Kylian Mbappe came close to scoring the fastest ever hat-trick in Champions League history on Wednesday night - but fell just short of Mohamed Salah’s record.

In Madrid’s league-phase clash with Olympiacos, Mbappe hit a first-half treble in six minutes and 42 seconds.

That’s just 30 seconds slower than Salah’s hat-trick in Liverpool’s 7-1 win at Rangers in October 2022, which was timed at six minutes and 12 seconds, per UEFA.

In the all-time list of the Champions League’s fastest hat-tricks, Mbappe’s treble puts him in second place ahead of Bafétimbi Gomis’s three-goal salvo for Lyon in December 2011.

In the 2011/12 group stage, Gomis scored three times in the space of eight minutes in Lyon’s 7-1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb.

Mbappe’s three-goal haul against Olympiacos is the Frenchman’s second hat-trick in this season’s Champions League. The striker also netted three in Madrid’s 5-0 win over Kairat Almaty in September.
