Joao Felix will play at Barca with the No 14 shirt

Barcelona officially announced on Friday night, just before the summer transfer window closed, the signing of Joao Félix as their new player. The Portuguese forward will play on loan for one season under the management of Xavi Hernández, with no option to buy.

Joao Félix, whose registration has already been accepted by La Liga and is listed on its website, will wear the number 14 jersey. Despite the number 10 becoming available after Ansu Fati's departure to Brighton, the Portuguese player has chosen a shirt that directly pays homage to one of Barcelona's great legends, Johan Cruyff. However, Cruyff honoured the number 9 at Camp Nou and elevated the number 14 to legendary status while representing the Dutch national team.

At Atlético Madrid, Joao Félix requested the number 79 upon his arrival, but La Liga regulations did not allow it. He also couldn't have the number 10 because it belonged to Correa, so he ended up wearing the number 7. At Barcelona, he will switch jerseys and play with a number he hopes will bring him luck and success in Blaugrana colours.
