Joao Felix got his first experience of a Profe Ortega fitness session on Monday morning.
The playmaker is expected to make an immediate impact for Diego Simeone's charges and will need to be physically adjusted in order to do that, so he was put through his paces at Los Angeles de San Rafael, the club's traditional summer base.
Felix was paired with Thomas Lemar for several of the miniature drills Ortega presided over on Monday, whilst other new signings Marcos Llorente, Felipe and Hector Herrera all were present too.
Aside from Antoine Griezmann, the South Americans Santiago Arias and Jose Gimenez were both still on holiday after their participation in the Copa America, whilst Thomas Partey is still in Egypt partaking in the Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana.
