Jovic's struggles under Zidane: Averaging just 10 minutes off the bench

Zinedine Zidane does not regard Luka Jovic as his first-choice striker, yet the 22-year-old has been given limited opportunities to impress in his debut season at Real Madrid.

In fact, Zidane has only given Jovic an average of 10 minutes on the pitch when the Serbian has started on the bench.

Jovic's numbers have been disappointing, having scored just two goals in 24 matches, but he has come off the bench in 16 of these games for a total of 169 minutes.

He played one minute away at Real Valladolid and just a couple of minutes against Atletico Madrid and Osasuna, while his 22 minutes at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu against Valladolid was the most time he spent on the pitch after coming on as a substitute.

Jovic was one the most sought-after strikers in Europe last summer when Los Blancos signed him from Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, Zidane has yet to place his confidence in the forward who netted 27 times for the Bundesliga side last season, where he played 2,532 more minutes than he has done this campaign.

Karim Benzema's injury in January gave him some extra minutes, but upon the Frenchman's return, Jovic was either dropped to the bench or had to watch games from the stands.
