Juventus warn Atletico Madrid that second leg will be a battle

Massimiliano Allegri's Juventus had been expected to seriously challenge for the Champions League this season, not least because they brought in the competition's all-time top scorer in Cristiano Ronaldo over the summer, yet they will have to make up for their 2-0 defeat away at Atletico Madrid back in Turin in what they are claiming will be a battle.

Goals from Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez handed Diego Simeone's charges a two-goal advantage that could prove to be decisive, and perhaps more crucially the defensive duo prevented the likes of Ronaldo, Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala from scoring an away goal.

The Bianconeri face the almighty challenge of scoring two goals against one of the meanest defences European football has seen this millennium, however Allegri himself has taken to social media to stoke his own supporters into a frenzy ahead of the return leg.

"20 days," his post began," 20 days for us to be ready for a challenge to live and win, all together, until the end."

Even Juventus' official Twitter account stoked the fire by emphasising just how important the return leg will be.

"Turin will be a battle," it read.

Juventus hope the Juventus Stadium will produce an atmosphere that puts Los Rojiblancos on the backfoot from the first minute of play, whilst Ronaldo remains confident of progression as he made clear by his response to critics whilst leaving the Wanda Metropolitano.

"We'll see who progresses," he stated.

The Portuguese later reiterated his belief on Twitter.

"It was a difficult evening," it began.

"Now we believe."

Leonardo Bonucci similarly emphasised that the return fixture at the Juventus Stadium will be a different affair.

"The return [leg] will see a different Juve," it read.

"90 minutes where each of us will have to pull out more than the maximum.

"On and off the pitch.

"Together we will play."
