The Costa Rican shotstopper claims the accolade for the third year in a row.
Real Madrid's Costa Rican custodian Keylor Navas has been named Goalkeeper of the Year 2018 by the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF). This is the third year running that the goalie has been awarded the accolade after having secured the distinction in 2016 and 2017.
Navas received the highest number of votes from amongst the coaches and captains of the male and female member national teams, media representatives and fans. The custodian fought off competition from Standard Liège's Guillermo Ochoa and Oklahoma City's Puerto Rican goalie, Cody Laurendi. The Whites' shotstopper also gets the nod between the sticks in the institution's Team of the Year.
Successful 2018
This accolade represents recognition for the Madrid goalkeeper's excellent 2018, in which he lifted the Champions League and Club World Cup. Navas was also in the running for the Concacaf Player of the Year award, where he ultimately finished second in the voting behind PSV's Mexican attacker Hirving Lozano.
