Kounde attracts Premier League interest, Barcelona open to sale

According to Mundo Deportivo, Kounde has inquired with Barcelona about his role in the 2026-27 season, and the club has not ruled out letting him go if a significant offer is received.

Kounde's agent, Jonathan Kebe, was seen at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on Wednesday to confirm how much the 27-year-old French defender would be considered a starter and in what position the team plans to deploy him.

Kounde came up through the center-back system, but he initially had difficulty accepting the change to playing as a full-back. What truly made him excel was playing as a right-back for both Barcelona and the French national team, under both Xavi and Flick at Barcelona, and Deschamps for France. Now, Flick is considering making Eric Garcia the starting center-back. With Ronald Araujo loaned to Liverpool, the German coach is also considering moving Kounde back to his original center-back position.

Additionally, Kounde has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City. Flick hopes to keep him, but as Mundo Deportivo previously reported, if a significant offer comes in and the player wants to leave due to sporting or financial reasons, the club does not rule out selling him. Barcelona extended Kounde's contract until 2030 in August 2025, demonstrating their appreciation for him when Manchester City was interested. Kounde recently stated that he wants to stay at Barcelona, but he also wants to understand the club's perspective on him.
