La Liga VAR Summary: Barca benefited the most, Real had the most unfavorables

According to AS, the 2024–25 La Liga season saw a record-breaking 189 VAR interventions, surpassing the previous record of 179 interventions in the 2022–23 season.

This increase is attributed to:

A higher number of referee errors this season, and

The debut of semi-automated offside technology, which allowed for more precise (millimeter-level) decisions on offside goals.

Of the 189 interventions:

62 were related to goals

86 were related to penalties

40 were red card decisions

1 involved mistaken identity
