LaLiga hope to open 1/3 of stadium capacities before the end of June

It has been clear that football is resigned to the fact that stadiums will not be full until 2021 at the earliest, yet LaLiga Santander retains a faint hope of stadiums being able to open up to 1/3 of their capacity before the end of June.

The opinion of the league and many leaders of top-flight clubs is that it would be economically beneficial to accelerate these measures.

Internal debates over how to spread people out in the stadiums continue, and now the option of filling 1/3 of the stadium is on the table.

Such a decision will be heavily influenced by the Spanish government and the Ministry of Health, as was the case by the choice to ensure players are tested significantly before returning to training.

The Royal Decree that gives details on the de-escalation plan suggest that communities in phase three are able to control the situation.

Phase 3 itself would allow a third of the capacity of stadiums to be used and this is what LaLiga Santander is working towards.

Conversely, there are teams who don't believe this to be likely and have pressed ahead with construction work at their usual stadiums, the most notable being Real Madrid's Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, which is in the process of installing a retractable pitch mechanism.

Being the first major league in the continent to allow fans to return would also be a significant boost to normality in Spain, and with Turkey still in the midst of the pandemic, the Madrid City Council hasn't yet ruled out being able to step in and host the Champions League final, which had been due to take place at Istanbul's Ataturk Stadium.
