Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has decided he wants to leave the Serie A side in search of silverware.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Milinkovic-Savic has no intention of renewing his contract with Lazio - which currently expires in June 2024 - and has already communicated his choice to the club.
After 250 matches and 52 goals at the club, the eight-year relationship between Milinkovic-Savic and Maurizio Sarri's side seems to have come to a natural conclusion.
The player's ambition is too high for the club's standards - given their fifth-place position in Serie A - and at the moment there is no window for a new contractual agreement.
A move would be in best interest for both parties, with the midfielder looking tired and confused in recent weeks as a result of the distractions that transfer rumours can bring.
This was epitomised in Lazio's recent match with Lecce, where the Serbian international was responsible for 50 per cent of his side's 14 turnovers in the match.
SARRI PROBLEM
Milinkovic-Savic has been an integral part of Lazio's midfield during his eight years at the club and has managed to thrive even in a robust, tactical system such as Sarri's.
The Italian offers a style of management that relies on tactical movements on the pitch and one that creates a high dependence on the mechanisms of the 4-3-3 system in order to obtain results.
However, if only one piece is missing, the whole team suffers and no longer knows how to overturn the result of a match.
JUVENTUS WANTS HIM
The Serbian international wants to play in a top club and, in Italy, the only team suitable for him is Juventus.
In Torino, he would find Filip Kostic and Dusan Vlahovic and would form a bond with the strongest players from the Serbian national team. The connection formed between them would also be very important for the future of Serbian football.
Allegri adores Milinkovic-Savic and would have no problem placing him in his 3-5-2, providing him with maximum availability and freedom, just like Simone Inzaghi did with him.
PREMIER LEAGUE CALLING
According to Messaggero, Milinkovic-Savic is also drawing interest from Premier League sides Arsenal and Newcastle.
Lazio had previously refused to consider selling the Serbian, but with just 18 months left on his current deal, the Serie A side have been forced to reassess their options.
The club value Milinkovic-Savic at €60m (£53m) - a fee which would allow the club to find a possible replacement for the international footballer.
Maurizio Sarri is understood to be a fan of Ivan Ilić from Hellas Veronan and Piotr Zieliński from Napoli.
The same outlet suggest that, even with personal terms, clubs would have to offer a substantial fee. A contract with a base salary of €10m (£8.8m), with €12m (£10.6m) would have to be tabled.
Lazio owner Claudio Lotito could be prepared to part ways with the midfielder in Janaury if a sizable offer is submitted.
