Brendan Rodgers has admitted that Leicester City are planning for life without Arsenal target Youri Tielemans.
GOAL has confirmed that Tielemans has emerged on Arsenal's radar as Mikel Arteta seeks to bolster his midfield ranks before the January window slams shut.
Initial contact with the 24-year-old's agent has already been made, and Rodgers has conceded that one of his prized assets must ensure that he "looks at every option" at this stage of his career.
The Leicester boss told a press conference when quizzed on the speculation surrounding Tielemans' future: "You always have to [plan for life without players], that is key. You always have to be looking ahead, that’s important.
"Youri is at an age and at a stage in his contract where he has to ensure he looks at every option.
"I would love it to be here at Leicester, that is natural, but I understand it's a very short career.
"Once the player is committed, focused and professional it’s never a worry for me.
"With Youri you can see his joy of being here, he loves being here and you have to respect these guys’ careers are short.
"If we are going to lose one we have to be ready for the next one to come in."
Tielemans has scored 23 goals in 131 appearances for Leicester since his loan move from Monaco in January 2019, which was made permanent for a club-record £40 million ($82m) six months later.
The Belgium international only has 18 months left to run on his current contract, though, and it has been reported that he has rejected an extension offer.
Arsenal are eager to capitalise on the situation but Leicester are reluctant to let Tielemans leave this month as they still hold out hope of reaching a renewal agreement.
A summer deal seems more likely, but the Gunners have a contingency plan in place, with club officials also working behind the scenes to try and sign Juventus star Arthur on loan.

Which midfielder do you think would be the best fit for Arsenal? Bissouma, Neves, Tielemans, or Souček?
I would prefer Soucek and Bissouma.I love Youri and i would love to have him but Soucek is just unreal. He never gives his opponent time and space.Youri at times look dreadful in those positions as you said but he is 24 and he will improve. So i don't see it as a big concern. The one midfielder i don't want near this football club is Bruno from Lyon and Renato Sanchez none of our fans watch them week in week out they just fancy any fringe player outside the league.I would highly Prefer JWP instead of those two

That's how I felt when he was at Chelsea 🤣 Mount, Alonso, Ziyech and Reece James are an upgrade to Willian when it comes to corner kick duties
Chilwell too.

Gabriel Martinelli too can take a corner. We have been good at corners since that Willian left.My god his corners were so dreadful at times

Yeah, Willian's corners are always underhit or overhit. I don't know how he still kept taking set pieces for Chelsea and Arsenal whenever he played[Crylaugh]

Ødegaard, Saka and Smith Rowe can take set pieces but they're not the best. Tierney has never taken one but I think he'd be a great option for that too because his crossing is so good. Neves will probably be an upgrade on them in this department too.

Yeah I think 40 million is very justified for Rúben Neves. A midfield duo of Neves and Bissouma would be perfect actually but it's not realistic as Arsenal seem content with Partey. So, probably you should be pursuing Neves then. Although Bissouma is quite a press resistant player, he cannot play those forward passes which Xhaka is currently doing and which Neves can play.
I hope Partey can turn around a corner. He's not been consistent but he has the quality to perform well every game. These days he loses his concentration almost as easily as Xhaka lol. Partey is a good player who needs to be consistent like Xhaka but with much more ability than him.

Now that I think about it, Arsenal do not have great free kick takers or set piece specialists in their first choice starting 11. Signing Neves will help to address that issue as well.

Anyone who has the discpline and intelligence to hold the midfield together and make good forward passes to the frontline can make us a better team along with the new striker we need too. I remembered Neves only a bit later in this conversation but I'd fancy him over Tielemans too in the role Xhaka plays. We were heavily linked to him last summer and I was very happy and judging by the rumours I heard back then it seems around £40m can convince Wolves to sell him if Neves is willing to leave. Sooner or later he might move to a bigger club after being underrated for so long because he plays for a mid-table team. But Brighton will demand around that much for Bissouma too, who is an upgrade on Partey in the CDM role. They won't be short of suitors for sure especially Man United who need midfielders more than any other 'big 6' team.

If you're talking purely about CDMs, then Bissouma is the guy. For me, he's the most improved player in that position this season. The defensive side of his game has gone up a notch and he's playing with a lot of confidence. I don't see him making many reckless fouls. However, if you want someone who can offer the same things as a Granit Xhaka but with more discipline to his game, then Rúben Neves is a great shout. His long range passing is better. Defensively he's alright but more importantly, he isn't reckless like Xhaka. He also has good ball carrying abilities, arguably better than all the players we mentioned. If I had to choose between Neves and Tielemans, I'd go with the Portuguese. I think his attributes overall suit Arsenal better. Bissouma is probably not the player you want if he's required to play the Xhaka role. He can't play those kinds of passes. So it depends on what profile of player you want. I can see the appeal in both Neves and Bissouma. But I personally wouldn't go for Tielemans if I was an Arsenal fan.

Yeah Chelsea have a back 3 and Kanté next to him so obviously he's more protected. I don't really rate Jorginho even when he became the 3rd best player in the world. We don't have a world-class defence but we have a very good one when everyone's fit. I think we need a better CDM then Partey so whoever is next to him shines be it Tielemans or Bissouma or Wilshere. Tielemans is just one of many good options out there, I'll be happy if we sign him or Bissouma or Neves, and will be very happy if we sign one of Neves or Tielemans along with Bissouma because Partey-Xhaka seem to have mistakes in them these days.

Of course, it's a collective failure at Leicester City just like how it usually is when there is a poor result. However, this conversation is mainly about Tielemans. The defensive side of his game isn't good just like a Xhaka or Jorginho. Our system in a way protects the defensive flaws of Jorginho. Now if you put the same Jorginho in Arteta's system, it would be a disaster. In the same way that Tielemans at Arsenal would probably be a worse version defensively as compared to what he would be at Chelsea. If you had an already world class defence, then acquiring Tielemans wouldn't be such a bad option. I think Arsenal should go in for a Bissouma. It would be a big statement of intent as it would prevent rivals like Man Utd, Tottenham or even Man City or Chelsea from signing him. Man Utd obviously have been crying out for a CDM for over a year. Man City need a replacement for the aged Fernandinho and Chelsea could soon be on the lookout for a Kanté replacement.

True but I included Jorginho anyway because he often plays alongside Kanté in midfield for Chelsea. But right now he doesn't deserve to start ahead of Kovanté/Kančić (suit yourself for those horrible combined names for the duo). Alongside one or both of Kanté or Jorginho (preferably the former) Tielemans can make a great midfield partner for other Chelsea midfielders. If Tuchel can make Jorginho look decent he can make Tielemans look world-class. The last bit is true, Leicester had 2 excellent chances to finish in the top 4 in the last 2 seasons and somehow managed to bottle them both. It's utterly laughable but they don't get trolled anywhere near as much because they haven't won much trophies in their history anyway and they're not part of the traditional EPL 'big 6'. Tielemans being one of their key players obviously can't be completely absolved of blame for that, but it's a collective failure if anything there isn't any clear scapegoat for their 2 consecutive big bottlejobs, tell me if there is one. Maybe Rodgers, since he is their manager?

Probably in Liverpool's midfield he would feature because they don't seem to have a settled midfield. Harvey Elliott picked up that horrid injury so he's not an option. Keita is regularly in and out of the side because of injuries. Thiago Alcântara isn't so good, and that leaves you with Jordan Henderson which is debatable. So that would definitely leave a spot for Tielemans to compete in. I don't believe he would get into Chelsea's first choice midfield. Not ahead of Kanté and Kovačić who do the ball carrying bit. Jorginho is a different profile of player. He's a regista - a role which Tielemans has never really been tried and tested. So they're not comparable. It's difficult to judge Gallagher on the basis of this season because he's playing virtually as a No 10 rather than an 8 because of the license he's afforded by Vieira to get into the box. His role hasn't been to defend. But we've seen at West Brom that he has the defensive capabilities. I reckon he would do the ball carrying bit quite well but only time will tell. I've not seen him play that role long enough to really judge him but the talent certainly is there. He has age on his side. I'm not saying that Tielemans is a bad player. I just don't think he would necessarily take you a level forward because defensively he's suspect and the red flags have been there in the last 2 years that you've watched Leicester City capitulate whenever they've had a crisis.

Tielemans has a case to start over Thiago or Henderson at Liverpool and Kovačić/Jorginho/Gallagher at Chelsea. It's not clearly justified but arguable. I woudn't pick him ahead of Gündoğan, Bernardo Silva and de Bruyne so yeah he definitely woudn't make it into Man City's midfield but that's about it he is capable of making it to the midfield of any other Premier League club as a starter. About AFCoN, Ik I am probably looking too much into it especially because Bissouma is from Mali not Nigeria or Ivory Coast. Since 4 of the best 3rd place teams can qualify to the knockout rounds now, the best they can realistically do is reach the Round of 16 but that's about it. Mali reaching the quarter-finals or beyond is very unlikely even bearing in mind that upsets are always possible in football because it doesn't happen very often maybe once every 3-4 times. So losing him to AFCoN would be no better than losing him for a slight hamstring pull for 2-3 weeks which is normal. Considering Bissouma doesn't get injured often, this isn't much of a problem with him but Partey is from Ghana and they have more potential to reach the latter stages of the competition and he is injury prone too so losing both of them is the main concern because like 5-6 games are played between start of January and start of February and some of them could be big games too. That being said, Saliba can deputise at RCB in case White plays at CDM when needed. Hopefully Farteta doesn't bin him again and give him his deserved Arsenal chance. Other injuries in midfield and defence are an added variable to this as well but that's all. Aubameyang and Pépé aren't starters anymore and both of them could be on the move pretty soon so even if we lose depth in attack without them I woudn't be that bothered.

I know the AFCON is a concern but after all, it's just a matter of 2-3 games. Benjamin White can also play in there if required. I just don't think it is worth compromising the quality and the profile of a player just because of an international tournament. There is so much to play for over the course of a season. Bissouma makes perfect sense actually. And yeah speaking of height, your full backs Tierney and Tomiyasu also help in this regard. It is not a huge concern honestly. I genuinely don't believe that Tielemans will really make a huge difference to Arsenal. You say that Tielemans deserves a top 4 club. I'm not entirely sure. He wouldn't make it into Chelsea's, Man City's and potentially Liverpool's. I know he gets goals and assists but is he better than the holding midfielders that those teams have got? I don't think so. People are disregarding his obvious defensive vulnerabilities. They're being overshadowed because of his attacking exploits.

True but what happens when AFCoN comes along? We will be missing both Partey and Bissouma and will be forced to play Lokonga and Xhaka for a month which could be a potentially crucial part of the season[Crylaugh]It happens once every 2 years. Apart from that, Bissouma would be perfect and cheaper as well. He has all the right qualities like you mentioned. Rúben Neves is another one I woudn't mind at Arsenal. For Tielemans goals and assists are just a bonus his overall game is still very good, easily deserves at least a top 4 club as a box-to-box midfielder. Souček is an upgraded version of Fellaini, but yeah he woudn't suit us that well apart from set pieces while we already have Gabriel, White, Partey and Vlahović (😏) who are good in the air. The others we talked about are better options than him.

If you ask me, I think Bissouma would be the perfect signing for Arsenal's midfield. If you combine him with a Thomas Partey in a midfield pivot, you'd have two grafters protecting the backline, and at the same time, they're good dribblers and very competent at ball carrying particularly. I think Bissouma is more of a ball carrier than Tielemans. He's very similar to Kovačić actually. Even in terms of work rate, ball recoveries and general defensive prowess, Bissouma is much superior to Tielemans. Do you really need another midfielder who adds goals and assists, or do you need a midfielder who can help you better in those transitions and also carry the ball to your potent front 4? I wouldn't worry too much about goalscoring and creating chances with the likes of Ødegaard, Smith Rowe, Saka and Martinelli. I think you already have that sorted. As for Souček, he is massively overrated in my opinion. He's not an excellent ball carrier, nor is he amazing defensively. Declan Rice is superior to him in these two aspects. Souček is being hyped up because he can score goals from midfield but he won't help Arsenal in the way that Arsenal fans want because he's not the right profile of player that you actually need. It's good that he's tall and strong in the air but is set pieces a real worry for Arsenal? I don't think so. If you really need height, maybe that's something which you can invest in other areas. I don't think you need to compromise your midfield for it.

Yes he is sometimes but like you said he will be fine as long as he has a solid defensive midfielder next to him. I don't think that alone would make him a passenger if it makes his midfield partner work a bit harder. Partey can do that but he's been injury-prone and inconsistent overall since last season. I want us to sign a better CDM as well because of that. He's still a major upgrade on Xhaka so I'd be very happy if we get him. If we sign Souček for instance, he woudn't provide the same ball carrying abilities as Tielemans but he's defensively better and a big threat from set pieces, he'd be great too. I've watched Tielemans a lot in the PL. While I understand the hype on him, I still feel he has moments where he is defensively a liability. You have to consider this before signing him. Tielemans is clumsy defensively but more disciplined than Xhaka. I also think that the reason why managers love Xhaka so much is because of his long range passing. I think Xhaka is also better than Tielemans defensively but just lacks the discipline required for great teams. Offensively, Tielemans is good. He has good attacking instincts and can score from range. But I really wonder if he can be an upgrade to Arsenal's midfield. I'm not entirely sure tbh. For the most part, Tielemans has been protected by Ndidi's outstanding defensive work while Xhaka until recently didn't have a Thomas Partey and a good backline to help out. Having said that, I can understand why Arsenal fans are fed up of Xhaka and just want to move on from him. I'm just unsure that Tielemans is the solution.

Height isn't that big a deal. If it's so important, we should sign Souček. Tielemans is a great passer and dribbler with brilliant work rate and vision to go with it. He doesn't lose concentration easily like Partey, Lokonga and Xhaka does sometimes which is so annoying to watch. He has a knack for chipping in with goals too mostly screamers. Kessié scores goals too but over 75-85% of them are penalties.

Having said that, I can understand why Arsenal fans are fed up of Xhaka and just want to move on from him. I'm just unsure that Tielemans is the solution.

Great, how about getting a midfielder in when you actually need one badly. Arsenal move at the pace of a glacier.

Why is it Arsenal are settling for second options despite having a clear idea of what they want???? We signed Lokonga when we had Bissouma and Aoaur and Neves at our disposal! Now we going for Tielemans when Bruno Guimares, Renato Sanches and Yves Bissouma are still out there??? I'm confused 🤔

A patternership of Partey and Tilesman in the midfield.. Arsenal will conquer the world... Can't wait to see this happen...

all arsenal need right now is steel, strength and movement, not to talk of height beside Thomas which Kessie offers in abundance

I like Kessié but Tielemans is better than him and also PL proven.

we have never had a successful business with Leicester since will have been link with player in the term, I think this people are taking us to sell player or the player are taking us to collect big contract

Maddison can play behind two strikers Telimans s just a central midfielder Both of them are good

maddison better than him
Maddison is an attacking midfielder while Tielemans is a box-to-box midfielder. We already have Smith Rowe and Ødegaard who are both performing at a high level so we have no urgent need for Maddison at the moment. Our weakest spot this season has been the midfield, Partey and Xhaka are our best holding midfielders and one is injury prone with mistakes in him while the other is also inconsistent and mistake prone. Tielemans would be a dream signing for us would instantly bench Xhaka as he's a major upgrade on both him and Partey.
