Leny Yoro makes Real Madrid feelings clear after Man Utd hijacked his transfer

France defender Leny Yoro completed a big-money move to Manchester United last summer, despite having long been linked with a switch to Spanish giants Real Madrid

Leny Yoro remains "happy" with his choice to turn down Real Madrid for Manchester United. The Frenchman was one of the most sought-after young defenders in world football last summer after starring for Lille.

Spanish giants Real Madrid were among those interested, but United stole in with a better financial package - for both the defender and his former club Lille. They eventually signed him for £52m.

But it hasn't all been plain sailing since, with the Red Devils having endured a woeful campaign last term, while the young defender could have now been playing Champions League football with Real Madrid. Despite that, he insists he made the right decision in moving to Old Trafford.

He said: "Yeah, I know the media, sometimes there's some information that's not completely true sometimes. This is some choice you need to make in your career.

"I've had a couple of clubs [showing an interest] - not just Madrid or United - I had a lot of clubs. Today my choice is Manchester, so I'm really happy with this.

"I know some people talked about this last year because of the results. I can understand them but, honestly, it's my choice, my career. I know what I'm doing, and I'm just going to be better in the future."

And while United are without any form of European football this season, Yoro insists that is only blip for the Red Devils and they will get themselves back to where they belong sooner rather than later. He added: "Even with last season, I never had this feeling of regret or something like this.

"I know Manchester United, I know sometimes you can have a bad season, but this club is a top club, so you can't have doubts about this.

"I know the project of the club also before I came. Of course I can't expect the first year to finish in 15th position. These are some things you need to face also.

"But you have the director of the club, the coach, all the players, as they're here to push you every day. You have confidence in this club. You need to put your heads up every day and try to do your best."

Yoro has so far made 43 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions, scoring once against French side Lyon. His next outing will likely come this weekend against Tottenham Hotspur.
