Leonardo wants to convince Mbappe and Neymar to stay at Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain and Leonardo are already working hard behind the scenes in order to avoid losing Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.? The star pair both see their contracts at the Parc des Princes expire in June 2021 and with clubs circling, they're desperate to lock the two down to longer term deals.

PSG aren't enjoying their best economic spell at the moment, which hasn't been helped by the coronavirus forcing football to go behind closed doors and Mediapro failing to pay Ligue 1 a considerable sum due to a dispute over television rights as a result of the pandemic.

Neymar and Mbappe's futures aren't directly related to the Mediapro money, though.

The Brazilian has shown a willingness to renew in Paris, but the situation surrounding Mbappe has given them more cause for concern.

In recent days the World Cup winner has put some supporters at ease by sharing tweets from the official club account, though it's hard to know how much that can be read into.

Leonardo knows that PSG's big names will stay as long as they are competing for titles, although he has acknowledged himself that keeping the best players in the world isn't always an easy thing to do.

Leonardo could argue that neither Real Madrid nor Barcelona are in their best shape at the moment though and neither is dominating European football quite like they have in recent years. The French club, meanwhile, are confident that they can build on last season's appearance in the Champions League final.

"PSG are going to be the team to beat for the next five years," Leonardo has said recently. "Football moves in cycles, there are clubs who have had a good time and now they're going to have difficulties."

Mbappe's priority has always been the club's sporting project and he wants to play with the very best in the world in Paris.

Neymar is expected to renew, and he and his father have always been closely linked to the project through various sponsorship agreements. Earning 37 million euros net a year, he is the second highest paid player in the world.

Now 28, Neymar feels at home in Paris, where he has settled both in the city and at the club too.
