A 1-1 draw on Saturday was overshadowed by a violent pitch invasion, in which the home players were targeted on their way back to the dressing rooms

Lille's Ligue 1 clash against Montpellier ended in chaos when home fans invaded the pitch and accosted players on Saturday.
The hosts were held 1-1 in a tight encounter, with Nicolas Pepe's first-half goal for Lille cancelled out after the break by Montpellier.
But the real drama began after the final whistle, when Lille fans streamed down from the stands to attack their own players.
Pepe in particular found himself the target of aggression, while the rest of the team were barracked on their way back to the dressing rooms.
All of this happened under the watchful eyes of Lille owner Gerard Lopez and sporting director Marc Ingla, who were present in the stadium as it unfolded.
Lille currently lie 19th in Ligue 1, one point shy of safety after 29 games of the season.
It was the second match in a top European league which suffered through fan violence, as West Ham supporters caused numerous delays in a 4-1 loss to Burnley, including one pitch invader who clashed with Hammers midfielder Mark Noble.

So what is it with French football fans? PSG fans with their "P*ta Madrid" banner, flair lightning, throwing bottles at Ronaldo and waking up Real Madrid players at night. And now Lille fans attacking their own players? French football fans really need to chill.

In America those fans would all (or at least as many of them as the police could round up) go to jail for trespassing. Why isn't it the same case in Europe? It seems like these things are almost accepted.

They made a lot of signings this season and hired Bielsa as a coach. However he got very bad results and players that could have got a big market value are underperforming (Thus even if Lille sell them, they aren't going to get much money) So they have to find around 25 million Euros to avoid the relegation. And if they avoid it, their team is probably going to be even weaker than right now, so their future is rather dark. However, this not my club, so maybe their situation has evolved since the last weeks and a Lillois could explain it better than me.

Really shameful act! Being a RMA fan, everytime I see Benzema on the pitch I wanna beat him. But that's not how it works. Management knows what to do. Zidane's decision is final. May these fans make peace [candle]

trust me these things should stop... these fans are be having like animals making players fear for their lives or to even go to most stadiums and play... if you attack your own players, what would you do to a rival team players?????? this is too bad, too bad for football... FIFA needs to get this rectified.. it's not good for the future... I'm starting a peace calling
