Liverpool have reportedly made an official transfer enquiry for long-term target Yves Bissouma after Brighton placed a £40million price tag on the Mali midfielder.
Bissouma has long been on Liverpool's radar and was linked to an Anfield move as early as last Christmas but began the season in Albion colours after a deal with the Reds failed to materialise.
However, Jurgen Klopp's side have now made an opening move for Bissouma, according to the Express.
Brighton have set their asking price but are reluctant to sell the 24-year-old after already unloading Ben White to Arsenal for £50m this summer.
The club are not keen to let him leave the south coast by any stretch but reportedly accept they may have to sell if the right offer comes in.
Bissouma's current contract isn't set to expire until 2023 but Albion have reportedly opened preliminary discussions about a new deal for the Mali international.
Brighton boss Graham Potter insisted that Bissouma was happy at the Amex Stadium but admitted he did not know what the player's future held when he spoke ahead of the Seagulls' league opener at Turf Moor.
'I've been speaking about Yves Bissouma for quite some time and he's still here,' said Potter.
'That's all I can say on it. I can't control the future, I don't know what's going to happen essentially - that's the beauty of life and football.
'Yves is with us, he's happy, he's smiling, he wants to play, he wants to keep improving his career, he's taking steps.
'He's our player and, while he's still here, we'll do our best to help him.'
The midfielder has established himself as a key part of Potter's side since arriving from Lille in 2018 for £18m.
Bissouma made 35 league starts for the Seagulls last season and has impressed with his energy, anticipation and tenacious style of play, including during their winning start to this season, garnering him plenty of top-flight admirers.
Klopp reportedly faces competition in his pursuit of Bissouma with Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal said to be tracking him.
However, according to football reporter Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are frontrunners in the race for Bissouma's signature.
Ibrahima Konate is the sole new addition to Klopp's squad this season after the centre back arrived for £36m from RB Leipzig but Liverpool could be set to bring another signing to Anfield before the transfer window shuts next week.
The Reds have yet to replace Gini Wijnaldum, who joined PSG on a free transfer in July following the expiry of his contract at Liverpool, and Bissouma has made Klopp's shortlist of targets to replace the Dutchman.

Arsenal are on another level of a banter but I still respect their history and to me still the 3rd biggest club in England. Let's hope our clubs don't follow their pattern or else we're totally gooners🤣

To all real LFC fans,Bissouma is a great addition, fabino is the only cdm we have, we know Milner, henderson and Thiago can play there but there are not genuine cdm, we need Bissouma, good reading of the game, control the game well, tackle alot ,run for 90 minutes, good passer and most importantly, he scored from midfield which we are lacking, trust in Klopp
Henderson was and still is a genuine cdm but we still should buy Bissouma since he’s young and is a good midfielder who can find these key passes to the forwards and he’s also a very good player on the ball

Nah different role. Bissouma is more like cdm and tielemans is more of cam. But both great additions nevertheless

Afcon involvement aside, Bissouma is a great long term investment, strong, running throughout the entire match.

You have my respect mate. I hope the rightful owners get holds of our precious clubs. Americans are alwys about themselves. Just look at what Arsenal has become, they ridicule and banter them every part of the social media space.

You have my sympathies mate and I hope these American owners leave our football clubs alone including Arsenal's owners. Anyways hoping for a good season ahead, let's hope we meet in a semi final or final of any competition.

I’m speechless at the ways they man-handle the club. It’s heartbreaking. They don’t have passion for football.

I know our owners are stubborn, but the Glazers are on another level of stubbornness. Even though I hate United, I can't stand watching our eternal rival succumbing to the decisions of the incompetence of the Glazers.

You’re not wrong in this at all. I’m just riding the wave as it comes, I’m not expecting wonders from them but I will alwys stand by them. I hope OGS and the BOARD really know what they are doing, which I doubt so much.

I’m as shocked as you are mate! All in d name of building young squad and yet he’s fitter and relevant than most of the entire squad.

Physically strong, young, nice foot work and have a good ability to read the game. A good deal and investment. Looking forward to see this deal can be materialised.

Tbh United do really need a proper no 6 while we do need a midfielder. I'm still shocked United didn't go for CR7

Could you check on the team squad of those winning and consistent teams?. Check Liverpool,Chelsea, man city...etc Our three defensive midfielders will definitely not make a team in those teams, they're not even gonna be considered as backup cos they already got better option in their CDM. We need to offload fringe players and let in suitable players to come in.

Exactly what United lack in their midfield. A holding defensive midfielder, a confident one. United can't wait anything with the brain of Fred and Scot, they're too average for consistency.
Scot it still average, you can't win trophies with those kinda players, Scot can only be a backup not experienced enough to be at that starting line up. Our coach is the dumbest coach I ever seen.

They are not blind, they don’t know what they are doing in that club. While majority are worry about CR7 joining CITY, the in-house problem we should be tackling ain’t been done. Nonsense If Liverpool get hold of him, good business for them.
