Lucas Vazquez looks set to leave Real Madrid after talks about a new deal broke down once again.
The 29-year-old's agent is understood to have met with Los Blancos director general, Jose Angel Sanchez, in recent days, but no agreement was forthcoming.
As such, the versatile Lucas is now considering offers from elsewhere as Real Madrid seek to fill the gap he will leave behind.
Since knocking back the club's first proposal for a new three-year deal - which involved a 10 percent salary reduction - talks between Lucas and Los Merengues went on hold until this latest meeting, which looks to have confirmed both parties' intention to part ways.
All this is not to say that Lucas has had a poor season - far from it.
He has been a key cog in Zinedine Zidane's starting XI, making the most of injuries to Dani Carvajal and Alvaro Odriozola to carve out a regular berth at right-back.
And he has featured in all but seven of Real Madrid's 37 competitive matches this term, missing four due to injury and three because of tactical decisions by Zidane. At the outset of the campaign, he was not expected to play such a big role.
Indeed, last summer he had an offer from a Qatari club, but in the end he decided to stay in the Spanish capital.
And that has paid dividends with how he has overcome initial adversity to thrive when Zidane has given him opportunities to pay.
Lucas believes he deserves to stay at Real Madrid, but with his contract situation at such an impasse, he will search for a new team that is in regular contention for the Champions League.
For now, the Real Madrid academy product will give his all until his last day at the club.
"It's a difficult situation, we'll see what happens. For now, I'll keep working hard," Lucas said last December.
Whenever he departs, relations between him and the club remain cordial and so his goodbye should at least be a happy one.
