Luis Suarez's Champions League challenge

The Champions League presents Luis Suarez with the chance to add to his goal tally for the season.

The time spent on the treatment table - 17 matches in total - mean that the Uruguayan's figures for goals this campaign are his lowest since joining Barcelona in 2014.

Suarez has scored 19 goals, 16 in LaLiga Santander and three in the Champions League, so far this term.

Five of those have come after he underwent knee surgery in January and since LaLiga Santander returned to action in June.

Since the return of football in Spain during the coronavirus pandemic, only Lionel Messi, Karim Benzema and Gerard Moreno have scored more goals than Suarez in the top flight.

However, his 19 goals this season are still five fewer than the 24 he netted last term - his least efficient full season to date at Barcelona.

For context, Suarez's best numbers came during the 2015/16 campaign when he found the net 59 times in all competitions, winning the European Golden Boot.

This season, he has a maximum of four opportunities to boost his numbers, with the first of them coming against Napoli - a team he's never scored against.

Once the Champions League is over, the 33-year-old will be into the final season of his contract at Barcelona.

He has to play 60 percent of the team's matches in 2020/21 to see that deal extended but, as MARCA reported a few months ago, MLS is calling.
