After conquering LaLiga Santander in his first season with Atletico Madrid, Luis Suarez was immediately aiming for bigger things.
The No.9 admitted to feeling belittled by the way he was pushed out of Barcelona after six seasons, countless goals and several successes, but he channeled that anger in the best way possible.
"Why can't I win the Champions League with Atletico?" He asked, immediately making the supports who already adored him worship his every move and words that little bit more.
His continuity is confirmed for 2021/22 now, and there are still a lot of challenges to keep him motivated despite having already exceeded 500 career goals and won almost all that there is to win in the game.
The ongoing battle with his physique
His goals against Osasuna and Real Valladolid were fundamental in the title race, but his physical decline towards the end of the season cannot be overlooked. Suarez turns 35 next season and his knee requires him to follow a very specific training plan to put up with the season.
His minutes will need to be dosed in 2021/22 so that he can be at his best when it matters most.
Continuing to improve his excellent record
He's already won the title but he wants more, and he has shown that at previous clubs too. Lifting a trophy just makes him want another, and anything other than a serious title challenge next season will leave him bitterly disappointed.
Ending his Champions League curse
As good as Suarez has been in LaLiga Santander in recent seasons, he has had an awful time in the Champions League. He ended his European career at Barcelona with an 8-2 loss to Bayern Munich, and has suffered humiliations against Liverpool, Juventus and Roma as well.
Since winning the competition in 2015, the No.9 has choked in Europe and hasn't scored away from home in over six years. Last season, he was knocked out without a goal in it.
Hitting 20 goals again
Suarez scored 21 times in LaLiga Santander, and the last two of those won Atleti the title. Diego Simeone said that the end of the season was the "Suarez zone", and so it proved.
Earning another contract renewal
Suarez was Atletico's only No.9 last season after Diego Costa left the club, and the club want to sign another to compete with the Uruguayan next season.
The ex-Barcelona forward, then, will have to fight for his place and should he manage to impress then he will surely earn another year's stay in the capital.
