Luka Modric has hinted he could retire from football soon and admitted he is not '100 per cent' sure what he will do after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The 37-year-old midfielder has said he will decide his future after the tournament as he is currently preparing for Croatia's semi-final clash with Argentina.
However, Modric did say it would be a 'dream' to see out his career at Real Madrid - having joined Los Blancos in August 2012.
'For now, I'm at the World Cup and very focused on Croatia,' the 37-year-old was quoted as saying by Diario AS.
Modric went on to add: 'What happens next, let's see, there's enough time to talk about everything [after the World Cup].
'Of course I want to retire in Madrid, I've said that many times. You can't say anything for 100 per cent, but that's my idea, and it's a dream for me.'
Modric has been pivotal to Croatia's success. He led his nation to the final of the 2018 World Cup in Russia and even won the Golden Ball for the best player during the tournament.
Modric was also crowned the Ballon d'Or winner after excelling on the international and domestic stage in 2018. He picked up the personal accolade ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezman, while Lionel Messi came fifth.
Modric has now hinted at retirement despite showing no signs of slowing down - having played a key role in helping Real win both the LaLiga and Champions League last season.
The former Tottenham man confirmed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar would be his last major tournament but refused to give a time-frame over when he would step away from domestic football.
The 37-year-old said he will think about his future after Croatia's World Cup campaign is over. He is currently focused on facing Argentina in the semi-final of the tournament.
Real Madrid fans will be disappointed to hear the 37-year-old is thinking about retirement. He has been pivotal to their success over the years.
He has made 454 appearances for Real Madrid and helped them pick up five Champions League titles and three LaLiga titles.
Nevertheless, Madrid have recruited young stars in an effort to build a team for the future. They signed Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga.
