Real Madrid didn't trust the appointment of Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez as referee of El Clasico and the game proved them right.
Los Blancos claimed two penalties for fouls on Raphael Varane, but neither were awarded.
The frustration was such that even the usually reserved Emilio Butragueno, Real Madrid's director of institutional relations, was outraged by the decisions.
"It's hard to understand that a technology available to the referees has not been used," he said.
"It's very disconcerting. There are two very clear incidents.
"If there is technology available, sincerely as a football fan, VAR has to intervene.
"I don't know what conversations they've had, but the referee has to check."
Varane was on the end of both fouls, first from compatriot Clement Lenglet and then from Ivan Rakitic.
Madrid couldn't hide their anger, though. Even the club's official website, which is usually neutral, displayed a piece about the two incidents.
The Camp Nou incidents now join Madrid's list of complaints this season, along with a penalty not awarded for a foul on Brahim Diaz at Real Mallorca and another against Real Betis for a handball not given.
