Man City hark back to famous Division Two play-off final win with new away kit

Manchester City have revealed their new away kit, recalling one of the most famous games in the club's history.

Twenty years after their dramatic Division Two play-off comeback win over Gillingham, City have harked back to the yellow-and-black striped kit from that day at Wembley.

The new strip features a dark blue shirt with field blue and yellow pin stripes down the front and back.

Volt-coloured socks with a dark blue band around the shin complete the fresh new look for the Premier League champions.

It will be worn for the first time during City’s pre-season tour of the USA, which will see them take on Liverpool in New York on July 25.

The game that the new design harks backs to is the come-from-behind win over Gillingham that secured promotion back to Division One at the end of the 1998-99 season.

City were 2-0 down and heading for a second season in Division Two before Kevin Horlock and Paul Dickov both scored in stoppage time.

Joe Royle's side made it through extra-time before secured victory via a 4-1 penalty shootout win.

The match is still recalled by City supporters as perhaps the most important in their history.

This reimagining of a famous kit from City's past follows their most successful season after Pep Guardiola's stormed to the league title, winning 100 points in the process.
