The former Manchester United star is compared with Jude Bellingham and hailed as a "man on a mission" following his two goals against title rivals Inter Milan
Scott McTominay was hailed as a “soldier on a mission” and compared to Jude Bellingham after his latest heroics in Serie A. Coach Antonio Conte was sent off for protesting a penalty decision and shouting at the fourth official in the 2-2 draw with Inter Milan.
But McTominay was Man of the Match for netting two equalisers after getting caught in possession for Inter’s opening goal. The Scot was sold by Manchester United for £25m in 2024 and he won Serie A last season and the Player of the Year.
And the Italian media heaped more praise on him after his latest stunning display which keeps Napoli in third place in Serie A just four points behind leaders Inter Milan.
Corriere della Sera claimed McTominay played “like a robot” by the way he reacted after his early mistake. And former West Ham star Paolo di Canio told Sky Sport Italia: “He embodies Conte’s essence and mentality. He made a mistake for the first goal but that’s no problem
“I compared McTominay to when Bellingham was moved back with the arrival of Mbappe. He is a soldier on a mission. He has gradually settled into another position and is dominant. When Rasmus Hojlund attacks the space, he prevents the defenders from marking McTominay. They are obsessively coached.”
McTominay told DAZN Italia: “Of course mistakes are part of football, you can’t go down, you have to stand up and try to do your best. Everyone makes mistakes in football, so I just want to give my best and help the team as much as possible. I always thought we were in the game.”
Napoli won the Italian Super Cup just before Christmas and remain in contention for the scudetto, Italian Cup and the Champions League despite a long injury list.
“The players are giving everything,” McTominay added. No Anguissa, no Lukaku, no Gilmour, no De Bruyne, no Rrahmani at the start of the season, Neres injured, I mean it’s as if Inter Milan had no Lautaro Martinez, no Thuram, no Barella, no Calhanoglu.
“It’s difficult when we are pushing every single game like this, it’s an absolute credit to the players, because the manager and the staff have put everything in place for us to succeed and do well, fair play to the boys, because we’ve got no ‘give up’ here.”
Napoli assistant Cristian Stellini took Napoli’s post-match press conference and claimed Conte’s dismissal was “a moment of frustration”. But Inter Milan coach Cristian Chivu
said: “I can only admire him and learn from him. Napoli deserve credit for never giving up and continuing to fight to the end to draw and even try to win. these are two great teams who raised the level of what modern football and Serie A can be.”
Napoli host Chelsea at the Stadio Diego Maradona on January 28.

Glazers, Ineos are a sh*t hole, these fuxkers knows nothing about football, until Glazers and Ineos level Manchester United won't get to the top or the club they use to be, rather old glories will be the other of the day
