Manchester Evening News: Bayern seriously considering Rashford signing for wing rotation

According to Tyrone Marshall, a journalist for the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United's main transfer focus this summer is on a left-back rather than a left-winger. Dorgu and Cunha are capable of covering the left-winger position. Luke Shaw's contract is about to expire, and he struggles with multi-front campaigns. The team is interested in Lewis Hall, but negotiations are proving difficult. Additionally, two other potential left-back candidates are no longer available. Meanwhile, Rashford will not be bought out by Barcelona; he is expected to attract new suitors based on his World Cup performance, with Bayern Munich reportedly interested in signing him to bolster their attacking rotation.

After evaluating multiple candidates for both left-back and left-winger positions, Manchester United's higher transfer priority this summer is a left-back, not a left-winger.

Patric Dorgu already possesses the ability to play as a winger, and he will remain with the team next season as a backup for that position. Last weekend, the 21-year-old scored a spectacular goal from the wing while representing Denmark against Ukraine, once again delivering a highly impactful performance on the field.

With Dorgu consistently performing as a left-winger and Cunha having occupied that position for a significant part of the latter half of last season, the urgency for the team to acquire a new left-winger has significantly decreased. Manchester United is still monitoring players for that position, with long-term interest in Morgan Rogers and also an eye on Everton's Ndiaye, but the transfer focus has shifted towards full-backs.

If Dorgu consistently plays as a winger next season, Luke Shaw would be the only recognized left-back in the squad. Although Shaw played every Premier League game last season, it's hard to guarantee he can handle playing twice a week, and his contract is also set to expire in 12 months.

Therefore, finding a successor has become a priority, and Newcastle United's Lewis Hall is a target Manchester United admires. The Magpies spent a massive £69 million this summer to sign Anthony Gordon and are not in a hurry to sell players, making transfer negotiations difficult; furthermore, Hall made 10 Premier League appearances last season as a substitute, failing to consistently secure a starting spot.

Manchester United previously scouted Eintracht Frankfurt left-back Nathaniel Brown, but the 22-year-old is reportedly close to agreeing personal terms with Bayern Munich and will move to the Bundesliga this summer. Myles Lewis-Skelly was also on the scouting list, but his explosive performance as a midfielder at Arsenal towards the end of the season has complicated his transfer situation.

Rashford originally believed his performance was good enough to stay permanently at Camp Nou, and Barcelona's decision to sign Gordon for a hefty sum caught him by surprise. Although the La Liga giant might try to buy him out for a lower price or loan him again, the possibility of Rashford wearing a Barcelona jersey again is now minimal.

Barcelona has until Monday, June 15th, to activate the buyout clause, costing €30 million (£26 million) to sign him permanently, but the club will not exercise this option. There has been no official communication between Barcelona and Manchester United yet, and other teams interested in signing Rashford will not be able to start negotiations until next week at the earliest.

The 28-year-old forward has made 49 appearances for Barcelona this season, contributing 28 goals and assists, a brilliant performance. If he can perform well in the World Cup, he will attract many buyers again. Several Premier League teams are interested in signing him, and the Manchester Evening News understands that Bayern Munich is seriously considering pursuing him.

Bayern previously pursued Gordon, and now with Jackson returning to Chelsea after his loan spell, the team needs rotation options for the left-winger position, and Kane also lacks backup. Rashford could fill both vacancies simultaneously.
