Manchester United are considering a move for Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak in the summer transfer window.
United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has admitted that it is 'obvious' that the club need to bring in a striker, especially with Edinson Cavani's contract set to expire in the summer.
As reported by BBC Sport, Rangnick said: 'This is obvious. Edinson's contract is running out in the summer and the club needs the best possible centre-forward. I think everyone is aware of that.'
Arsenal were heavily linked with a move for Isak in January but the Gunners were reluctant to pay his £75million release clause.
So far this season Isak has scored eight goals in 27 games for Real Sociedad across all competitions.
The 22-year-old has the potential to develop further, although there would be a significant amount of pressure on him to succeed if he did join United given the club's recent difficulties.
Despite re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo, United have scored just 37 goals in the league so far this season, which is someway short of the figures of 57 and 60 mustered by Manchester City and Liverpool respectively.
Therefore, United are eager to strengthen in attack, with Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland among the names under consideration. Rangnick has a connection with Haaland having helped to oversee his transfer to Red Bull Salzburg from Molde in 2019.
Alternative targets include Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez and Patrik Schick of Bayer Leverkusen.
Martinez has 12 goals in 30 games this season, while Schick has found the net 18 times in 22 appearances.
