According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Getafe has reached an agreement with former Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal, with the transfer now awaiting financial approval from LaLiga. If approval is granted, Carvajal will officially become a Getafe player.
Carvajal's contract with Real Madrid expired on June 30, and he has been a free agent since. Spanish newspaper ABC was first to report Getafe's interest in signing Carvajal, sparking anticipation among the club's fans. Getafe coach José Bordalás has been instrumental in driving this deal, hoping to add experience, quality, and competitive spirit to his squad with Carvajal's arrival.
After leaving Real Madrid, Carvajal did not rush to decide his future, instead training alone throughout the summer while awaiting an offer that would convince him to begin a new chapter in his career.
In recent days, Getafe offered Carvajal the opportunity to join the club, and both parties quickly reached an agreement. However, despite the player and club agreeing on terms, the deal has not yet been formally completed.
Currently, the biggest obstacle stems from LaLiga's financial fair play regulations. Carvajal earned a significant salary at Real Madrid, while Getafe has very limited salary expenditure capacity. The club must ensure this signing complies with LaLiga's economic control requirements.
According to the report, Carvajal will not be able to maintain his previous Real Madrid salary upon joining Getafe. Nevertheless, the agreement between both parties still requires official approval from LaLiga, which is the final step needed to complete the transfer.
For Bordalás, Carvajal's arrival would represent a significant reinforcement, strengthening both the team's on-field performance and leadership in the dressing room.
Given Getafe's current limited squad depth, Bordalás has been actively looking to strengthen his team through the transfer market. In his view, Carvajal's extensive experience, competitive spirit, and leadership qualities are essential attributes the team needs.
