Real Madrid triumphed over Huesca on Sunday thanks to a lone goal from Gareth Bale in a game that was neither bad nor overly impressive.
The difference between the sides in terms of both budget and league position wasn't clear at the Estadio El Alcoraz.
Marcos Llorente is already a threat to Casemiro.
The role of the youth team product in this Madrid side post Eibar is key.
He has featured in four consecutive games and each time produced an optimal performance, proving himself as a capable fire extinguisher whenever there is a fire or potential for one.
It isn't just about recovering possession though and he was even involved in the goal.
With Llorente on the park, Los Blancos have yet to concede a goal and we can already say that he has been one of the revelations of the season.
El Alcoraz and Huesca were in imposing mood for the visit of Santiago Solari's men.
Their performance contradicted what the league table says in terms of their capabilities.
It didn't look like a game between a bottom side in LaLiga Santander and a three-time European champion.
In fact, you could even argue that they deserved the draw.
However, for Huesca, their situation is a worrying one and the team are now seven points adrift of safety.
Bale has now broken his drought in LaLiga Santander with his first goal in almost 100 days.
Such a streak is not good enough for a player of his level and his teammates need him to step up all the more now following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Welshman finished off a good move between Marcos Llorente and Alvaro Odriozola to volley the ball in for the only goal of the game.
From his position on the left, he was more active than usual and had two strikes from range saved well by Aleksander Jovanovic.
Gonzalo Melero had the clearest chance for Huesca but somehow didn't manage to beat Thibaut Courtois.
Everything appeared to be in his favour but he didn't find a way past the Belgian, who produced a couple of smart stops to preserve his clean sheet.
Luka Modric appeared as a Ballon d'Or winner for the first time and had another good afternoon, despite the small size of the pitch and the wind, which complicated the game.
He kept the ball well and produced some possession worthy of a magician, like his nutmeg in the first half.
It was a surprise to see Solari hook him on 65 minutes but the home support recognised his achievement with a hearty ovation as he exited.
Dani Ceballos didn't have his best afternoon in Huesca.
He was the first change Solari made when he pulled him off to introduce Fede Valverde.
Keeping the ball proved a problem for him and he couldn't contribute as he normally does, while he also picked up a first half yellow card.
All of that caused Solari to call upon Valverde, who has grown in stature at the club of late.

With every performance he's proved that he needs to play. It would be an absolute disgrace for such a talent to not expect the minutes he's working for. I hope we give him an alternating spot with Casemiro.

you people shouldn't bring this up again, is the same way you raised Assencio to where he hasn't reached and caused Ronaldo's exit look at how we are suffering now. Don't raised this issue anymore. Huesca were even better than Madrid today, we rather lucky

😇🙏🏾 Llorente is not a threat to Casemiro we can line up with 2 CDMs in a tough game if we want to play more defensive Futbol so hopefully Casemiro or Llorente won’t think of Leaving Real Madrid please 💔

I disagree I don’t think he’s a threat at all. If anyone had to choose which one they would play, Casemiro would be picked 100% of the time. He’s a top 3 CDM in the world with Busquets and Kante and has been huge in the recent success of Real Madrid. Llorente is a great young talent but Casemiro plays at an elite level against the best clubs in the world and Llorente isn’t there yet.
