Max Eberl: We are eager to renew Upamecano's contract; hope Kane will stay

Dream start, league leaders, title dreams: In a recent interview, Eberl analyzes Vincent Kompany's influence on Bayern's strong start to the season. He also comments on possible contract extensions with Dayot Upamecano and Serge Gnabry.

On Vincent Kompany's part in Bayern's success: "As a coach, you're responsible for the team and Vincent Kompany has played an extremely big part in the current season. He's been at the club since July 2024 and has developed fantastically. Success doesn't come automatically, it's hard work. He started that last year and is continuing it seamlessly this season."

On Players' development under Vincent Kompany: "Vincent Kompany has given players like Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry and Leon Goretzka a new lease of life, a new perception and also a new desire. He has made them healthy. That is continuing seamlessly this season. Now with new additions, also from the campus, with Lennart Karl, who he wants to integrate just as well and build up. He always says quite deliberately that he doesn't want any hype, but he wants to initiate a development so that he can appear in professional football for the next 15 years, 20 years, and not be a one-hit wonder. And that speaks in Kompany's favour. That's why he's a stroke of luck for FC Bayern."

On Harry Kane:"Harry Kane is a player who benefits from Vincent Kompany with the way we play football. For me, Kane has developed in a way that is special. He's not just reduced to scoring goals, but the way he runs for the team, the way he creates chances. Kane is an outstanding personality. He just wants to be successful and win titles. That's what drives him. And we want him to keep doing that for as long as possible."

On Possible contract extensions with Dayot Upamecano and Serge Gnabry: "There are very open talks, especially with Dayot Upamecano. It's no big secret that we have a great desire to extend Upamecano's contract. And as far as the other players are concerned, a few contracts are expiring. Players who have been at FC Bayern for a long time. These are players who have a completely different perception of themselves, but also of the team, of FC Bayern. And it goes without saying that we always think about that. When we think the time is right, we will start the talks quietly behind closed doors."

On Serge Gnabry: "Serge Gnabry had a very good time when he came to FC Bayern. Then there were one or two years that were what they were. I can't really say why. But I can assess what I see now, what Vincent Kompany is doing with him, what Serge is doing on the pitch. He feels great. He's healthy. He's not worrying, he's playing and he's doing an outstanding job at the moment."

On the coming home game against Bremen: "As someone who grew up in Munich, you know what a special time this is, these fortnight in Munich. We have to bring our best performance to the pitch against Bremen. Then there's an extremely high probability that we can win the game. We're separating the Oktoberfest and the Bundesliga a bit right now. We want to win the game and give people not just a nice evening at the Oktoberfest, but a whole weekend."
