Kylian Mbappe has a "good feeling" about winning the Ballon d'Or this year.
Mbappe has been highly vocal recently over his ambitions to win the award for the first time.
The Frenchman is likely to be going up against Bayern Munich's Harry Kane and Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal, who has also insisted he should be considered as the favourite for the award.
While Yamal played a role in Spain winning the World Cup, Mbappe has scored 50 goals in 52 games for Real Madrid since the start of last season.
Of players in Europe's top five leagues, only Kane (67) has netted more club goals than Mbappe in that time.
Mbappe, who is also on 499 goal involvements in his club career, also finished as the top scorer at the World Cup, with 10 strikes to his name. He is now the record goalscorer in the history of the competition (22 goals).
And the 27-year-old feels this is his time to win the Ballon d'Or.
He told RFI: "I've had a good year. I've had a great year on an individual level, and I know that's the most important criterion for the Ballon d'Or.
"I was the top scorer in all the major competitions, and I think this could be a good year for me. I've got a good feeling about it.
"At the Ballon d’Or, they won’t be announcing a team in the envelope, but a player. So it's an individual trophy, and I think that's what has to take precedence over everything else.
"Of course, we must not overlook everything else, but the ability to perform well individually and to leave a lasting impression is what makes an impact on people when it comes to a trophy like that."
When it was put to him if he would be disappointed not to win the Ballon d'Or, Mbappe said: "Of course.
"A competitor is always disappointed when he doesn’t win. At that point, I think it'll be my competitive spirit that takes a knock. But we'll have to wait and see how it all pans out."
