According to French media Rmcsport, after France's 2-0 elimination of Morocco, Mbappe said his ankle was fine, and the French team stated they would continue to monitor it.

"My ankle took a hit, but it's nothing serious." Mbappe tried to reassure the public after France's 2-0 victory over Morocco in the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals. A fierce tackle by Issa Diop momentarily brought him down and even forced him to be substituted by Mateta in the 77th minute.

Mbappe's availability for the semi-final against Belgium or Spain does not seem to be a major issue. Belgium and Spain will play at 3 AM CEST on Saturday. However, to ensure Mbappe plays in top condition, the French coaching staff will closely monitor his ankle.

The scenes after the match were reassuring. The injury was to the same ankle that Mbappe had injured in the 2020 Coupe de France final when he was tackled by Loïc Perrin. At that time, Mbappe was still playing for Paris Saint-Germain and suffered an ankle sprain with significant damage to the lateral ligament area.

Although Mbappe's ankle has improved significantly since then, it remains relatively fragile. Therefore, the French coaching staff will remain cautious in the coming days. However, there is no need to worry at present. At the end of the match, Mbappe was smiling and even jumped in front of the stands where French fans were gathered, celebrating the team's advancement to the FIFA World Cup semi-finals.
