This season's difficulties at Real Madrid stem back to the exits of both Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer, with Steve McManaman insisting that the club's hierarchy need to accept the blame.
The Portuguese's goals were not replaced, and the succession plan for Zidane did not go well, with Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari both failing, ultimately leading to the Frenchman's return.
"I'm a big supporter of Florentino, how can you not be after four Champions Leagues in five years," McManaman said to La Galerna.
"And now he's brought Zizou back.
"I can only point to the reasons behind this year being so bad. Anyone could see the consequences of letting Cristiano go without a replacement, but I have no problem with Florentino [Perez]"
The Englishman elaborated on the impact of Zidane and Ronaldo's respective departures from Real Madrid last summer.
"Zidane leaving, added to Cristiano's departure without anyone coming in was a huge shock," he said.
"None of it made any sense because they guaranteed control in the high and low moments.
"After three Champions Leagues in two and a half years he deserved the control."
Continuing with the theme of Zidane and Ronaldo, McManaman wonders if the Frenchman knew the No.7's exit was imminent.
"I don't know if he sensed that Cristiano was leaving and that he wouldn't be replaced," the former player added.
"If he did, he probably did well to leave because it's clear that there were going to be problems."

There Steve, but that is said at the time of the mistake, not a year later, I said it here in AUGUST of the year 2018 and I announced the TOTAL FAILURE. But the journalism at the service of the Club, manipulated and the naive amateurs .... ... they let themselves be manipulated.

It did not matter who signed Kane, Mbappe or whoever it was. Only Benzema is going to play. What's more, I'm sure they thought that with Benzema in the lead and Bale as the leader of the attack, they would inflate to score. The end of the story we know what it is and meanwhile Mariano eating pipes, an uncle who scored more goals than Mbappe last year and the same as Neymar, playing in Lyon ....

In the past it is clear that yes. But we must not forget that we tried to bet on young talents that were supposedly the future of Real Madrid and that last season played a great role, aspiring to be vital in the current one, in a market that was absolutely inflated. Without forgetting that the level in this season of veteran key players has not been expected much less. Naivety is paid dearly. This season has been lamentable in sight, but a club that comes from winning 4 Champions in 5 years can not be classified as a catastrophic situation. In addition, we must assess unforeseen factors such as the coach's progress that psychologically affects the staff.

We all think that steve, but here many antis the first thing they want is the head of floren because they know he is the best president there is, this year he will not make that mistake, I have no doubt that he will leave a made-up team and a world Bernabéu.

Before starting the season it was already said that it would be a blank and transitional year, which could be allowed after the 3 champions, but then incomprehensibly for me, long to Lopetegui giving the sensation of nervousness and that what was said before it was worth It is true that the team was very poorly classified but it was a new style of play and needed time, in addition there were games that were left unfairly just for lack of goal (those of CR7 maybe)

If Bale is happy it is not noticeable, this year he had to show interest, to make a real effort to be part of the group, to try to offer another facet in his game, not just run and make unchecked without sense. let's not talk anymore

Go if you were wrong, do not sign the replacement of the Portuguese with the leadership and charisma of the condemn us the entire season. He was in favor of the sale of cr7, but only if he signed someone of his height

McManaman knows it well. I remember when I was at the RM and spent the season without playing. They asked him if he was fine. "What if I'm fine? I earn a lot of money for not playing, there's a lot of sun, good food and a lot of parties, so I'm fine ..."
