The Messi Foundation and Special Olympics Catalunya renewed their partnership on Wednesday to extend a collaboration that started back in 2015.
Both institutions' objective is the social inclusion and improving of the qualify of life for children with disabilities and their families, through sport.
Rodrigo Messi, president of the Messi Foundation and brother of the Barcelona player, signed the new agreement with the president of Special Olympics Catalunya, Sergi Grimau.
Over the last six years, around 4,300 children with disabilities have benefited from special projects which aim to fight against social discrimination.
However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organisers have not been able to carry out all the competitions in recent months.
Despite this, and thanks to the support of the Messi Foundation, it has been possible to provide sports centres and schools with the necessary materials for the kids to continue training and enjoying physical activity.
