The former Barcelona midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes Manchester City and Manchester United should forget about signing Messi because he isn't built for the Premier League like Cristiano Ronaldo was.
He said: “Honestly, I don’t think he’s suited to the intensity of England.
“He doesn’t like being closed down and being fought.
“In Spain, he’s protected.
“It would be a pleasure for English fans to see him but I don’t see why a club like Manchester City , for example, would move for Messi at 32 or 33.
“If City wanted to buy him, they should have tried to do it a couple of years ago.
“Messi is not Cristiano Ronaldo. Physically, he’s not the same machine.
“Ronaldo is a monster but, at 32, Messi has only one or two more years playing at the highest level.
“Even playing alongside great players at Barca, he won’t have the same pace or the dribbling ability.
“I’m sure he knows the end is not far away.”
Messi’s future has been thrown into doubt following a public falling out with Barca sporting director Eric Abidal and the revelation that he can walk away from the Not Camp for nothing in the summer thanks to a clause in his contract.
Petit added: “With the Eric Abidal and Lionel Messi situation, it all depends on what happens in the next transfer window.
“Many players were disappointed with the previous summer's activity, with so many players rumoured to come in who never came, Neymar being one example.
“When you add in the investigation into medical procedures involving Abidal and the club, it has all contributed to his image being slightly affected.
“Abidal has also had recent trouble with Xavi, who's a legend at Barca.
“It was hard to understand what was going on there, with talk of Xavi joining as manager — it was all very unclear.
“Seeing Xavi's reaction afterwards, it showed that there’s a lack of communication and that someone is lying.
“Something similar has happened with Messi.
“We’re not used to Messi speaking out on social media in such a manner.
“Usually, he’s very quiet, so clearly he must be very upset.
“If you look at Abidal’s place in all this, I’m sure the club will be looking ahead to the next transfer window and looking at his responsibility for it.”
Petit knows how the politics work at Barcelona off the pitch and, on it, he has been less than impressed in recent weeks with the form that led to Ernesto Valverde’s sacking last month.
He said: “I’ve watched them recently and I’ve been bored.
“It has been slow, they’re weak defensively and lack creativity."

If Stering, Salah, Aubameyang, Abraham, Ings, Grealish, Vardy, Son and Rashford can do it, certainly Messi can do it. Ronaldo gives you goals but Messi has a plethora of other skills like dribbling, passing and scoring which means he has even greater chance to succeed than Ronaldo. Argentina is not Barca has he struggled? Being the all time topscorer and assists provider and leading the team to four finals along the way that can't be called struggling.

This is a Challenge Messi should accept. Leave Barcelona and let see . Prove us wrong . For me , as long as Messi stays at Barcelona. Ronaldo is the best of all times

Well he is saying this because Barcelona kicked him out after just one season and according to his bs reason Bernardo Silva, Eden Hazard, David Silva shouldn't have succeeded n EPL but they did. Petit is 6'2", I bet if he was 4 inches shorter he wouldn't be saying that. Everyone flaunts what everyone has.

WTF!!! Argentina is his motherland but he didn't play good as much as Barca. Barca is his comfort. He's not gonna reach to the goalkeeper cuz only midfielders is enough for him. Almost every team have more skillful or long shot hitting player he can't match them. After 3-4 matches they will make fun of him but he didn't understand cuz he don't know english.

The truth is Messi wouldn’t last long in the EPL take it or leave it. Watch la liga games you would see that don’t tackle or mark players like the Epl. Messi is just a Barca legend not a world football legend. After it’s all said and done the only records he can boast of is in Camp Nou(Barca) y’all should go and rest nonsense

First of 2014 Higuain also had 1 assist in knockouts. CR7 had same stats to Messi in 2018 compared to his golden ball winning year in 2014 in fewer matches. But CR7 didn't had team which could go till finals. Argentina always had great squads. They were always in top 3 favourite whereas Portugal was never. Only in past 2 yrs you can say Portugal squad has risen to level of Argentina.
