Militao facing up to four months out as Madrid's injury crisis worsens

Real Madrid's defensive injury crisis worsened after the club confirmed on Monday that Eder Militao is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Militao was replaced by Antonio Rudiger in the 24th minute of Madrid's 2-0 defeat to Celta Vigo on Sunday and was assisted off the pitch by medical staff.

The Brazilian underwent medical tests, which confirmed a rupture of the biceps femoris tendon in his left leg, affecting the proximal section of his hamstring.

And though Madrid did not confirm the timeline or significance of the injury, it is expected that the defender could miss up to four months of action. 

"Following tests conducted on our player Eder Militao by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the biceps femoris tendon in the left leg, specifically affecting the proximal tendon," a club statement said. "His progress will be monitored."

It is yet another blow for Xabi Alonso and his backline, with Militao joining the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dani Carvajal, David Alaba and Ferland Mendy on the injury table. 

Alexander-Arnold sustained an issue in his quad during Los Blancos' win over Athletic Club last Wednesday. 

Militao had made 13 appearances for Madrid in LaLiga in 2025-26, a total only bettered by eight players within Alonso's ranks.

The news comes as a huge blow ahead of their Champions League clash with Manchester City on Wednesday, with Madrid boss Alonso reportedly under pressure.
