Mundo Deportivo: Rodri returns to training and could make his Barcelona debut

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s new signing Rodri returned to team training on Monday and is expected to make his debut against Athletic Bilbao.

Rodri trained individually last week due to insufficient preparation following Barcelona’s FIFA World Cup victory and his outpatient back surgery. As Hansi Flick revealed at the pre-match press conference ahead of the Elche game, the midfielder trained with the full squad on Monday. He trained alongside players who had limited playing time or did not feature, while those who started at Martínez Valero underwent recovery training. Of the players who featured against Elche, only Raphinha, Fermín, Gavi, and Pedri trained at the Tito Vilanova field at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.

Rodri is regaining fitness with the team and hopes to make his Barcelona debut next Thursday. Barcelona will host Athletic Bilbao at Spotify Camp Nou in a rescheduled match from the first round of La Liga, which was postponed because an insufficient number of players had returned from the FIFA World Cup.

Gavi Awaits Test Results Gavi also did not train. He started at Martínez Valero but was replaced by Pedri in the second half after suffering a knock to his right knee while pressing Elche's defense. Although Flick stated after the match that the injury was not serious, Gavi will undergo examinations at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, and the club is expected to provide an update later today.
