Newly-promoted Elche want Diego Maradona to be their manager on their return to LaLiga action, according to reports.

Elche earned their spot in Spain'd top flight after emerging victorious in the Segunda play-offs, beating both Real Zaragoza and Girona.

Despite guiding the side to greater heights, the decision was taken to remove boss Jose Rojo Pacheta just days after the celebrations.

That move came at the request of the new owner, Christian Bragarnik, who has been likened to super-agent Jorge Mendes, who has played an influencial role at Wolves.

Now according to Super Deporte via Football Espana, he could use his influence to bring in Maradona for the new season.

Maradona is currently managing in his native Argentina, where he is head coach at Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata.
