Neymar, Suarez... Absences, descents & disappearances from Ballon d'Or Top 30

One year ago Luka Modric was named the Ballon d'Or winner for 2018.

The Croatian beat Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann to the prize, with the Portuguese and Frenchman finishing second and third, respectively.

On Monday, Lionel Messi won his sixth prize, but the list of the top 30 players was very different to that of last year.

Neymar was completely absent, while Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale, Sergio Ramos, Edinson Cavani, Harry Kane and Jan Oblak also fell.

One of the names in decline is Griezmann. He fell from third to 18th place. Eden Hazard, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe and Kevin De Bruyne have also dropped off considerably.

In the list of improved players you see names like Messi, who climbed four places to top spot.

Sadio Mane, Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino and Hugo Lloris also made improvements on last year.

There were 17 new players in the top 30. A number of those are representing Ajax, Liverpool and Manchester City.

Virgil van Dijk finished second, while Mane and Alisson moved up 19 and 18 places, respectively.

The worst news of the night for Spanish football is that no Spaniard entered the top 30.

Four Barcelona players made it, two from Real Madrid and Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.
