Nobody has done better playing alongside Dembele than Aubameyang

Ousmane Dembele's relationship on the pitch with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Borussia Dortmund was more fruitful than any other partnership the Frenchman has had so far in his career.

The Gabon international joined Barcelona on a free transfer after terminating his contract at Arsenal on deadline day, but it is doubtful whether he will have the chance to play with his former teammate once again.

Dembele has been frozen out by Xavi Hernandez after turning down Barcelona's renewal offers and refusing to depart the club in the January transfer window, but it remains to be seen what happens next.

"I am very surprised that he did not accept a proposal that he had from an English club," Barcelona president Joan Laporta said on Wednesday.

"It is difficult to understand. We think that Dembele already has a contract with another club; they have insinuated that to us."

With his contract set to run until June 30, Dembele rejected Barcelona's offer to release him. Meanwhile, the good news for the Frenchman is that he will rejoin forces with Aubameyang.

Formidable partnership at Dortmund

Dembele and Aubameyang combined for as many as 13 goals in just one season, which came back in 2016/17, as the Frenchman teed up his teammate 12 times, while he was set up once by the Gabon international in a campaign that saw Dembele score 10 goals and provide 21 assists.

Only Lionel Messi has participated in more goals with Dembele (15) than Aubameyang, but they did so in 95 games, whereas the former Dortmund duo registered this figure (13) in just 44 matches.

"Auba is very important to me," Dembele said back then.

"He is my roommate, but he also acts as a translator for me when the coach gives instructions."

Aubameyang also hailed his teammate's personality when they plied their trade at the Bundesliga side.

"[Dembele] is a very nice boy," noted the Gabonese forward.

"I help him where I can. He shows that he wants to learn and integrate quickly."
