Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix has tested positive for coronavirus, his club announced on Wednesday morning.

The Portuguese international, 21, is now isolating at home and will begin a period in quarantine - the news comes just four days after team-mates Yannick Carrasco and Mario Hermoso also tested positive for COVID-19.

Carrasco and Hermoso missed LaLiga leaders Atletico's 4-2 win at Cadiz on Sunday, but club record-signing Felix started and played 60 minutes yet will now be unavailable for Monday's clash at home to Celta Vigo.

A short club statement read: 'Our player Joao Felix have tested positive for COVID-19;.

'He is isolated and serving quarantine at home.'

Felix, who moved to Atletico from Benfica for a club-record Β£113m in the summer of 2019, has made 25 appearances for Diego Simeone's side in all competitions this season, scoring nine goals.

However, the striker had scored just once in his last 11 league outings. Nonetheless, Atletico are currently on a win-streak in the league of eight games, with Luis Suarez firing up front.

After their weekend win against Cadiz, they are 10 points clear at the top-of-the-table from Barcelona in second, with a game in hand.

That lead at the top comes after city rivals Real Madrid lost 2-1 at home to Levante.

Simeone and his side are hunting their first top-flight crown since 2014, when they secured the LaLiga title on the final day of the season.
