It's official: Ronald Araujo is now a Barcelona player.
The club made the announcement this Thursday morning and while this is a new signing, Araujo won't be part of the first team but will instead join up with Barça B.
Araujo arrives from Boston River (Montevideo) and in a deal worth €1.7m plus variables, according to Barça. However, sources in Uruguay claim the total cost of the transfer is closer to €5m. At 19 years old, the centre back will make the switch to Europe in order to help Garcia Pimienta's side.
Ronaldo is the current captain of the Uruguay's U20 team, is 188cm tall, and offers an aerial threat. This is a common characteristic when it comes to other Uruguayan defenders who have succeeded in Europe recently, notably Godin and Gimenez.
Araujo started out at Huracán de Rivera, played for Rentistas' as a youngster and signed for Boston River in 2017.
