The 36-year-old full-back — one of Lionel Messi’s closest on-field partners since their time together at FC Barcelona and now at Inter Miami — has decided to take the next step in his life and follow in the footsteps of his longtime teammate, Sergio Busquets.

Alba made the announcement on social media. Over the course of his career, he has collected an impressive list of honors, including LaLiga titles, Spanish Super Cups, Copa del Rey, the European Championship, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Nations League, among others.

Two years after joining Inter Miami from Barcelona — reuniting with Messi and Busquets — Alba has decided to close this chapter of his career. During his time in South Florida, he helped the team capture its first-ever Leagues Cup title and, a year later, the Supporters’ Shield. Before retiring, though, he has one final goal: to lift the MLS Cup this season.

In light of Alba’s departure, Inter Miami is already exploring options to strengthen the left-back position. One of the names linked to the Herons is Spanish defender Sergio Reguilón. According to reports from AS, the former Tottenham and Real Madrid player is currently a free agent, and early talks have taken place regarding a potential move to MLS next season — a situation that could make negotiations relatively straightforward for the Fort Lauderdale club.
