About the Kopa Trophy

Established by France Football in 2018, the Kopa Trophy is named after the late French footballer Raymond Kopa, who won the Ballon d'Or in 1958. The award recognizes the best-performing player under the age of 21 during the previous season.

Unlike the Ballon d'Or, which is voted on by journalists, the Kopa Trophy is decided by a jury consisting of former Ballon d'Or winners.

Yamal previously won the award in 2024 and 2025, becoming the first player in history to win the Kopa Trophy in consecutive years. With his latest triumph, he has extended that record to three straight victories.
