Marc-Andre ter Stegen had surgery on his right partellar tendon this Tuesday, an operation which was successfully performed by Dr. Ramon Cugat.
Barcelona confirmed that the intervention went well and stated that the goalkeeper should miss two and a half months as he recovers.
Although the 2020/21 schedule has yet to be confirmed, Ter Stegen should miss around five domestic fixtures and one or two European games before he returns in late October or early November.
That should see backup goalkeeper Neto play some important minutes.
The injury Ter Stegen has suffered is not a serious one, but it's an issue that he and the club wanted to solve.
"It is a proactive measure which is done now in order to prevent and prepare for the future, since the player had some irritations on the tendon earlier in the season," Barcelona explained in a statement.
